As more and more couples stray away from the traditional church wedding and village hall reception we are happy to be able to offer a flexible space for couples to have the wedding of their dreams.
A great example of this are Sarah and James. These childhood sweethearts had their hearts set on a wedding with a twist using tipis. After lots of hunting for a venue with the outdoor space to accommodate these they visited us. Our beautiful lawn that overlooks the Yorkshire Dales was the perfect space and our self-catering accommodation and bed and breakfast rooms means there is plenty space for guests to spend the night too. The bride and Groom will also enjoy the bridal suite that overlooks the lawn and rolling hills.
As well as an overnight stay there guests will also enjoy some time in the world famous Forbidden Corner attraction, we are sure this will make for some amazing photos of the couple!
We can’t wait to welcome James and Sarah as well as their family and friends in August when they tie the knot at the Saddle Room!

If you’re tying the knot this year you will no doubt be deep in the midst of wedding planning madness at the moment! To help you plan your big day down to the detail we have complied a list of hot Wedding trends for 2017 that are sure to wow your guests!
First on our list is the flowers. 2017 is all about unique and colourful floral arrangements. Think mixing big and bright blooms like carnations and gerberas and incorporating colourful pompoms and ribbons for a one of a kind bouquet!
Great catering can make or break your guests experience at your wedding. With many Wedding’s beginning early in the day and lasting late into the night, you will want to make sure your guests are well fed to avoid any rumbling tummies and disgruntled relatives! Lots of couples are now opting for additional extras such as delicious canapes for their guests whilst photos are being taken which are always well received. For an unforgettable evening reception why not opt for a hog roast?
Its official, 2017 is all about the naked cake! Despite the name, this style of cake isn’t a saucy concoction designed to make Mary Berry blush, but rather the name given to a cake that has been left deliberately ‘unfinished’. Naked cakes are great for creating a vintage chic look at weddings and when dressed with fresh flowers are the epitome of understated elegance.

Lucky as we are to be nestled so perfectly in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales it seems only right that we look to that for inspiration for our first cooking guide, and you can’t get much more Yorkshire than the Yorkshire Pudding!
Now we realise the perfect Yorkshire Pudding can be a somewhat divisive topic with everybody (and their Gran) having their own recipe and technique to achieving the perfect rise on their puddings. This is our tried and tested method, and what we serve each Sunday accompanied with your choice of either Sirloin of Beef or 30 day salt aged leg of lamb, all sourced locally of course.
You Will Need…
- 140g plain flour
- 4 eggs
- 200ml of milk
- Sunflower oil for cooking
For the best Yorkshire Puddings you will want to make sure your oil is nice and hot before you add your batter. If the oil is too cold you risk these not cooking evenly, or achieving that all important rise!
Before you start on your batter preheat your oven to 230⁰c or for gar ovens Gas mark 8. Drizzle around 1cm of oil into each compartment of your Yorkshire pudding tray (a muffin tray works just as well) and pop this in the oven to heat up.
To make your batter combine 140g of plain flour with 4 eggs and mix well until this is all combined. Stir in your milk and beat until all the lumps are gone. It’s worth taking the time to make sure it’s lump-free at this stage, no one like a lumpy Yorkshire pudding.
Add seasoning to your batter, a simple dash of pepper and salt works well and for the extra adventurous a dash of mustard powder can add a unique twist to this classic and mix.
Pour your batter into a jug, this will make it much easier to distribute the mixture between the compartments of your tin.
Remove your tin from the oven and pour the mixture into the compartments. You will need to work quickly to ensure an even rise.
Return the tray to the oven and leave undisturbed for at least 20 minutes. Resist the temptation to keep peaking or you will risk the temperature in the oven dropping and flat puddings.
Once puffed up and golden brown remove from the oven and plate up. Serve with some delicious roast beef and lashings of gravy!
Where Did I Go Wrong?
Have your Yorkshire Puddings not quite gone to plan? Here are a few common mistakes, and how to avoid them!
Have your puddings not risen? There are a number of reasons this could be attributed too. The key to a good Yorkshire pudding is getting the oil nice and hot so make sure you whack the heat up in plenty of time to allow the oil to heat through.
Another common mistake is using eggs straight from the fridge. Using chilled eggs means is likely to result in pancakes, not puddings!
The position of the tray in the oven is another thing to consider. Science teaches us that hot air rises so the temptation to place these as high in the oven is possible seems only logical…However, if your tray is too high you risk these hitting the roof of your oven and falling flat.
Now we have shared our recipe and top tips, why not let us know yours on Twitter and Facebook!
